There’s no one someone won’t miss.

In the video, a man is faced with a staggering statistic and a powerful question. “Last year, 249 people died on our roads. What do you think would be a more acceptable number?” to which the uncertain man replies, “Um… 70, maybe?”

But when the cameraman tells the interviewee to turn around and look down the street, the man is completely stunned. Out walks 70 of the man’s family members and closest friends. It couldn’t hit closer to home, and the man can’t help but break down in tears at the thought of losing these 70 people. And just as he’s wiping the tears away, his son cries out for him and runs into his arms, followed by his wife.

According to Asirt.org, nearly 1.3 million people die in road crashes each year, on average 3,287 deaths a day. At the heart of Towards Zero is an Australian campaign created by Transport Accident Commission Victoria. “We are fragile, and there’s only so much physical force we can withstand and this is why we need to build a safer road system. Improving the safety of our roads, our speeds, our vehicles and our people will improve safety for everyone,” the organization writes on YouTube.

Though this video is only 60 seconds long, it does a fantastic job of getting its message across. Please SHARE this with your friends on Facebook.
