Chinese wildlife rescuers use sledgehammers and ingenuity to save Asian elephants.

According to Within Edition, four groups of elephants accidentally fell into an artificial concrete fish pond in China’s Yunnan province, prompting panicked people to call for wildlife for help.

When the rescuers arrived, only one elephant remained in the fish pond, but it quickly became clear that he could not get out of the water.

According to the World Wildlife Fund, the Asian elephant is endangered and its population is declining. That’s why it’s more important than ever for communities to find each other in order to protect each other.

The rescuers realized that they needed to help the elephant out of the pond, but it would not be easy because he usually weighs 11,000 pounds.

While the elephant was struggling to get out of the cement pond, the rescuer had a brilliant idea. He took a sledgehammer and began to drive it into the cement wall, breaking it into pieces to make it smaller.

It’s not the concept that many people think of, but it works! Part of the wall broke, and the elephant managed to get out of the pond onto dry hard ground.

According to Inside Edition, rescuers watched the elephant for several minutes before escaping back into the wild.
