Paul DeLeon is a 53-year-old homeless man. While many dismiss the homeless, around this neighborhood, DeLeon is known as a bit of a security guard in the area. In other places, the homeless are known for rescuing strays.

One night he was in the parking lot of a Fresno, California liquor store and saw the unthinkable. It was a 19-year-old woman being beaten by her ex-boyfriend. The man was punching and kicking her.

DeLeon stepped in without hesitation.

“I mean he was kicking her hard too, right in the head, and I couldn’t just stand there and do nothing,” DeLeon said. “I grabbed my mace, and I maced him.”

He walked up to the maniac and pepper-sprayed him. The maniac fled the area and drove away in his white Lexus.  However, he came back for DeLeon. The crazy man began to shoot at him, he hit DeLeon in the arm.

Then DeLeon pulled out his registered handgun and returned fire. It is unclear if the maniac was hit, but he drove away. Later, police found the vehicle abandoned with bullet holes on the door.

Now, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office is calling DeLeon a “good Samaritan,” for acting quickly and saving the woman’s life.

The woman is expected to make a full recovery, as is DeLeon, who was shot in the arm.
