7 Survival Life Hacks To Prepare You For Any Disaster

The adage “better safe than sorry” has proven itself true time and time again, and most of us already have an emergency preparedness plan in place. For those who want to take their disaster response kits to the next level, the HouseholdHacker has a few tricks up his sleeves.

According to Ready, an emergency preparedness PSA campaign from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the three crucial steps we should all take before disaster strikes are to: “(1) build an emergency supply kit, (2) make a family emergency plan and (3) be informed about the different types of emergencies that could occur and their appropriate responses.” This three-pronged plan is designed to encourage families to be proactive in learning about what protective measures to take based on location and type of disaster (natural or man-made); in establishing where to meet and how to communicate with loved ones during such an event; and in packing sufficient supplies (including a flashlight, batteries, a first aid kit, medication, etc.), clean water, and food in survival kits.
